Is diald running as the user "duffy"? If so, is pppd set to
set-user-id (suid)? If not, pppd either needs to be run as root, or
you need to execute "chmod u+s /usr/sbin/pppd" without the quotes.
This will allow other users to run pppd. That may be your problem.
