I've managed to d/l the DialD program, but when trying to follow the
instructions to issue command "make" etc, the Linux can't find the "make"
command. I think that I perhaps didn't install the compiler when
installing Linux 5.2.

First of all, how do I check whether GCC is installed? Where would it be
stored if it IS installed?

Second, if GCC ISN'T installed, is it easier to upgrade to RH6 (in the
process install the compiler, etc) instead of installing the compiler, THEN
to upgrade at a later time?

Does installing RH6 leave the config files alone? I've spent 2 weeks
getting PPP installed so that it works. I don't want to throw that away!

Anyhow, how do I go about installing V6? I have the RH6 for i386 processor
CD. Is it merely a matter of booting from it, then letting it copy
whatever to the appropriate partition (I have a few different partitions)?

I hear that RH6 comes with both Gnome and KDE, but that it lets you choose
one to install. I've also heard that one can have as many graphical
environments installed, and switch between them. Based on that, how do I
go about installing the other graphic environments?

Any help appreciated!

Regards

rupert
