Hi everybody!
I spent a few nights thinking about the postings concerning the diald
GUI. And I tried to figure out what would be possible with appropriate
energy to be put in.
After all I thought the following to be an idea:
1) The GUI should allow administartion of DIALD via a remote-interface
such as a Web-interface.
2) Diald accept and ignore rules are to be configured flexibly.
3) More than one instance of diald should be supported.
4) General configuration (apart from the filter rules) should be provided.
5) It should be easy to use and (which is more important in my opinion)
easy to install.
Well. One solution would be a nice Webmin-interface.
I dont know - on the one hand side - whether Webmin is free, suppose
it turned commercial -> Not everybody would be willing to buy Webmin.
The next possibility is a standalone C,GTK++,Qt or whatever application
for linux.
So I (do you remeber: I love JAVA ?) tried some hacks concerning a
java implementation.
To show the general design:
There would be a DialdGUI-server running on a server.
This server also runs an instance of apache.
Via this apache a site is available which holds
the DIALDGUI applet. This applet connects to the DIALDGUI-server.
(It is allowed to do so because it had been uploaded from the same server
and is therefore trustable).
The applet is the GUI everyone talks about.
What do you think?
This config should run on ervery browser supprting java.
And a quick apache installation (for those who dont have him running
already) shouldnt be too much work.
Any suggestions, ideas, critics?
