Finally got diald to work -- eureka!

Though I am not certain, my problem was either with the fifo option, which
which was generating a missing endpoint error and which I have deleted for
the moment or with REPORT strings in my chat script.

After re-reading diald-examples.man for the umpteenth time, I realized
that all chat output goes directly to the modem. So, I added a -r option
to the chat invocation to redirect the report output to a file and voila!

Now, I need to figure out how to make all my networking apps play nice
(timing).

Also, when I shutdown, the sccript that kill portmap causes diald to try
to connect. How do I stop this annoyance?
