They are from http://juanjox.kernelnotes.org/

I rolled that based on http://juanjox.kernelnotes.org/diald-0.99-1.src.rpm

So which configuration files and how?

No, my machine was logged in, and there was a single route to the ppp remote
destination, but no default route.

No, I found that using /sbin/route with metrics is fine, it is just ifconfig
that gives the error message about metrics.

Hey, I just fgot it working in a ultra-kludgy way, using addroute and my
iproute2-2.2.4-990630nu rpm, which means that all routes appear
successfully except for the default route for ppp0. I then used the addroute
option and wrote a simple addroute script:
#! /bin/sh -x
# Nick: a lousy kludge to get this damn diald-0.99.1 working.
echo "/sbin/route add -net default gw $4 metric $5 dev $1"
/sbin/route add -net default gw $4 metric $5 dev $1
At last, I can use it, although my log has lots of error messages from the
wrong calls to /sbin/ifconfig and /sbin/ip. I wish this software worked
properly!

Yes, I could always dial manually with a simple script.

Okay, I guess that'll stop diald from bringing the link down when I use ncftp
which hogs all the bandwidth, and stop the link coming up from samba name
queries.

Yes, the first thing I did.

Yes, I did that many months ago.

Thank you very much. I would really like my students to be able to use this
software, but I cannot give it to them if I can't get it to work myself! I'll
roll another rpm for diald when I get something that I understand and that
works.
Maybe it's because I don't understand or use linuxconf successfully, and write
all the scripts by hand?

Good-that's encouraging. I just thought it was too difficult for a busy person
like me.
