This is something that was noticed as soon as kernel 2.3.13 was
released and mentioned here. The problem seems to be that diald does
not recognise that pppd has come "online". diald 0.99-1 contains
2 different mechanisms; one for ppp 2.0x and the other for ppp
2.2x. It would appear that ppp 2.4 (as used in kernels 2.3.13+) uses a
new mechanism which diald has not been updated to use.
So far there has been no word from the maintainer about when diald is
likely to be changed to work with kernels later than 2.3.13.
