I'll get back to you later with the manual connection script etc - the script is
actually a cut down version of the one I've already posted.
Your assessment of ppp not starting sort of confirms my suspicion. However, my lack
of linux knowledge leaves me stuck as to why diald seems unable to start the pppd
process correctly.
FYI - I have never seen a connection through diald proceed beyond:
Using interface ppp0
whereas the manual connection proceeds to
Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/modem
and so on. The ppp0 interface is not registered at all (according to ifconfig)
whereas tap0 is.
