Hi,
Just subsribed to the list and thought I would say
hello. I am now approaching a project that involves establishing a PPP
connection over a DSL connection. The DSL "Modem" is a Nortel 1Meg box
connected to the Linux server via a 10MB Ethernet card. According to Bell
Canada (the providers of the service), the ethernet connection only requires
simple logging into PPP and it should establish a connection. I have quite
a few clients that want this service, so it will be pretty important to get
going on this soon.
So anyone seen this one before?? I'm using
the ISDN connection tips as a starting point and I'll see what
happens.
Bell Canada does offer a "solution" for Linux, but
the performance hit is brutal (70% CPU utilization). I think DialD makes a
heck of a lot more sense to me. Well, I'll just have to see. I'll
keep everyone posted. If anyone has any thoughts or comments on this it
would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks. Take care and take it
easy.

PS: I know it sounds weird to offer PPP over
DSL, but this is how they decided in Canada to allow competition in the DSL
space. ISPs can hook into the DSL network and offer you to connect to the
Internet through their backbone via PPP. (To allow competition, Bell
Canada must allow other ISPs access to the DSL network for 25% below their
commercial price.... strange but true!)
