For those of you who are having problems with RH 6.0 and connections, the defaults for pppd for auth vs. noauth have changed sometime along the way and I suspect RH 6.0 has the new pppd. Check the man page and ensure you have the correct auth/noauth option defined for pppd. I had the same problem when I upgraded my pppd.
