/dev/ppp is used for the new 2.3.15 and newer linux kernels. Pppd
v2.3.10 is made for use with these newer kernels that are under
development. There is a readme for LINUX that comes with 2.3.10 source
(see: ftp://cs.anu.edu.au/pub/software/ppp ) that explains everything.
It seems that as of pppd v2.3.9 that the remote ip address is
not required anymore.
The short of it is: get v2.3.8 of pppd and you will be okay.

Nope, I followed the instructions (as I have previously) in the
RH
manual for building and installing a kernel.

What is /dev/ppp, and why would I need one now when I didn't
need
it before?? And how do you KNOW that is /dev/ppp? By which I
mean:
HOW COULD I FIGURE IT OUT FOR MYSELF?
