Thanks but it still does not work..... diald dials when it has to... pppd comes up but everything is unreachable....  a regular ppp connection works fine...

Make sure that you do not have 'defaultroute' in /etc/ppp/options, and as
you don't have a static ip, you should also have 'noipdefault' in
/etc/ppp/options
