HHmm. Is your diald.conf including a filter? Like standard.filter for
example?

Are you sure you're modifying the correct diald.conf? For example, in my
setup I have a symbolic link to /etc/diald/diald.conf as /etc/diald.conf

Make sure your editing the right config file;
