Hi,
Thanke You for "noauth" advice, I was not reading pppd manual carefully
- after having defaultroute set by diald it is necessary, BUT
The problem is it's still not running ... i.e. in 4.step (see bottom)
the pppd is started and killed by diald after TIMEOUT !!!
There is 100% problem, that pppd is NOT receiving/sending any data,
because between starting and killing pppd there is no "LCP" record
in "syslog", although pppd runs with "debug" option, probably
diald runs it with wrong device !? There is now no problem with pppd,
because 1.step examination is pretty functional.
Follows original message extended in 4.step:
I am 1'st time user of diald and need help.
Basicaly I need it for modem, but when I found - it's not running, I
decided to
test it on direct line between two linux boxes (RH 6.1) - with the same
result.
Here is shortly written what I was doing:
1. step: I made prefectly runing ppp connection without diald, started
from following script (see included syslog):
/usr/sbin/pppd debug /dev/ttyS1 115200 lock local crtscts connect
"/usr/sbin/chat 'TIMEOUT' '30' '' '' 'gin:--gin:' 'pppuser' 'sword:'
'pas' 'S1' '' "
2. step: I instaled diald-0.99.1-2.rpm and rewrote above script to
/etc/diald.conf like this:
include /usr/lib/diald/standard.filter
mode ppp
connect /etc/diald/connect
redial-timeout 5
device /dev/ttyS1
speed 115200
lock
crtscts
dynamic
local 192.168.1.1
remote 192.168.2.2
defaultroute
debug 0x0088
pppd-options debug noauth <- added after advice
3. step: Starting diald
- proxy device sl0 established ok,
- defaultroute to proxy iface established ok,
- everything seems to be ok
4. step: let's try ping -c 5 123.123.123.123
- ifconfig sl0 is showing TX packets: 10 ok,
- looking to "syslog" on my tty10, chat is passing ok,
- pppd is started by diald - BOOOM
Alhough I am not running any masquearading/firewall I still receive a
message:
"The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couldn't
find any
secret (password) which would let it use an IP address"
- this message I do not understand - what for authentication is needed
???
I have a feeling like pppd is started for some other terminal / not
ttyS1, as it should be ...
Thanke You for Your prompt answer Noro
Additional config files:
/etc/host.conf:
order hosts,bind
multi on
/etc/resolv.conf: empty
/etc/ppp/options: debug
