I've upgraded from Redhat 5.1 to Redhat 5.2 with all the patches. I'm
running diald 16.5 and the same diald configuration that was previously
running with RH5.1. I was previously running bind4 as a caching only
forwarding server. Now with the new configuration I'm running bind 8
and believe that I've configured the name server as it was before. The
only annoying bit is that when named starts after booting the server, it

does a DNS query to one of the root servers on internet. I'm not sure
why this is happening since diald didn't used to fire when I booted my
old server. It's been a while since I've had to mess around with diald
since it has been working like a charm. So my questions are:

Is there something I am missing in the configuration/behaviour between
bind4 and bind8?

I went from a 486 to a Pentium 166. Was this behaviour previously
masked by being on a slower machine?

What's the best method to squelch this, some setting I need to configure
in named.conf or in diald.conf?

Cheers,
Rod
