I had the same problem and it drove me nuts for weeks. I finally solved it
by making sure the hostname is localhost on linux. (I am using RedHat 5.2
and my hostname gets changed everytime I connect to ISP. I have not
decided if I want to fix a permanent name as I do not have one and using a
fictitious one screws up some mail)
