This sounds precisely like the frontend shutting down after 5 seconds, which 
is standard procedure in newer DVB driver releases. Try this :

$ modprobe dvb-core dvb_shutdown_timeout=0

Of course, if you're using 'make insmod' from the DVB/driver directory, you'll 
need to insert the dvb_shutdown_timeout=0 parameter in the relevant line...
