Sorry just ignore my posts for now. I went and booted off my old kernel that did work, and it too is also locking up after one second. This was previously working fine for minutes/hours until the USB disconnect occurred.
I've upgraded a few of my system libraries tonight, so I guess one of them has broken things. Once I get it all working again with the old kernel I'll revisit the new one and see what happens.
