I experienced similar problems using very cheap compact flash modules.
Currently we use modules that internally work with hitachi chips, they
are fine. Although sometimes Linux says there would be things like
SeekError or something like that, but this appears at startup only.
Other cf-modules were not recognized by either Linux or the bios, but
they worked within a digital camera. So I recommend to have a deeper
look at the modules you wish to use before buying lots of them.
