I'm a newbie in this whole sector of Linux stuff, so forgive me if any of my
questions are, well, stupid..
That said, here's my question: I'm in the planning stages of a project using
an x86 box (233-300Mhz Cyrix MediaGX, 32MB+ RAM), and I want to make the box
boot as quickly as possible. I've been told that Linux can boot in as little
as 10 seconds (or even less), if slimmed down properly. I'm not a Linux
expert by any means (not a novice, though), so I'd like to start from a base
that's already pretty slim, but that won't limit me. My question is this:
Are there any readily-available and relatively easy-to-use distributions
that will boot in less than 15 seconds on the hardware above, and which
would you recommend?
Would booting from a DiskOnChip have any appreciable effect on boot time?
Are there other ways to improve boot time? I'm aware of a few, but most are
still in their infancy, e.g. LinuxBIOS and Suspend-to-Disk.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jordan Running
