Sometimes the umount retries a few times then succeeds.  But more than
half the time a fsck is forced.

So it looks like there could be something going on here.  I'll pay a bit
more attention later on today, see if I can generate a more coherent
problem report.

This is definitely changed behaviour relative to pre4-1.  I think Al did
something to umount recently?
