actually the first option is less intrusive (in fact its almost done)

looking in a different place for the meta options is far easier than
searching for two different names throughout the code.

Uhm, can you please keep that out of CVS for the time being? ;-)

sounds like a simple function call.

and a bunch of memory allocations which i'd like to avoid if possible... we already do plenty :-)

Implementing it as the first option may be less intrusive to the CRM
(I'll let you be the judge of that), but it certainly causes more effort
for everyone else.
