if you were to compare heartbeat 1.x vs heartbeat 2.x with a V1 config, are
there any problems that would show up?
the fact that this can't take advantage of other 2.x features is not a useful
answer.
as for why someone would want to do this, it's much less risky to upgrade a
software package if you don't have to also change the config drasticly at the
same time (especially if the config change would require training a significant
group of people)
In addition, if a person doesn't need the new features of 2.x, but wants to be
running a version that gets patches, this is a useful option.

you could use this script to convert V1 to V2 style.
# /usr/lib/heartbeat/haresources2cib.py /etc/ha.d/haresources
This script will create V2 config file /var/lib/heartbeat/crm/cib.xml
(Then you could use hbclient or hb_gui to modified cluster settings).

We only want to make some services high-available (FTP etc.) in a
cluster with two nodes and mirror some filesystems to the active node
via DRBD.
