PactorII: Expensive? It is a complete system, dual packet radio ports,
remote radio control port, hf all-mode, fax, modem, ISDN etc. The only
thing it doesnt have is an IRDA port....not that expensive!
Paccomm doesnt sell it anymore. Someone else sells the SCS model here.
I sell my SCS model pactorI cheap, as I really do not need it anymore.
I live in a crowded downtown, so does HB9BJJ. We both have the automatic
power reducer set to "on" (to reduce TVI) and sometimes we notice our
tnc's "power down" to 5 watts while maintaining an error free link at full
speed across the atlantic. We never "hear" each other in audio under such
condx, but that could be the nature of receiver recovery etc.

Nuff said, I am surprised that not more use ptc2 in the US, it's about
twice as fast as ptc1 on the average.

PTC1 software for a soundcard is available. Never heard of open ptc2
software. Should be feasible in Linux....I really believe theres an
opportunity for Linux-for-Hams. But I am not enough of a hacker to do
something about that. Theres a hohum terminal ptc2 pgm in DOS that could
be ported. I have run it in UMSDOS, but thats ridiculous....like holding
your fork with chopsticks while eating chinese noodles, comeon!
