I think that Pactor II as sold now has a KISS type interface which
lets it work with the ax25-utils. The MFJ 1276 has no kiss when in pactor
so if your using Linux as I am, the only terminal I have found is
"minicom" and it works fine.

I'm fuzzy about just how kiss works and it might well be
impossible to implement kiss on the MFJ. It has kiss in the packet mode
however.

It seems to me in the 1980's a bbs was written that used the TNC
in the normal "terminal" mode. I guess one could be written today in Linux
and it looks like the windows pactor server called WinLink does this. The
setup file to put the AEA-232 into pactor is written like such a file.

So perhaps a pactor server "front end" needs to be written. With
the improving HF conditions it is fun to use pactor on HF.

Best wishes
