I went to sunsite.unc.edu and made sure I looked at the latest
HOWTO and it is dated November 3, 1997 and that is before the release of
Red Hat 5.2 and the advent of the 2.2.x kernels. The libc6 which caused
problems when trying to compile them and then the 2.2.0 kernel made other
changes that make this document wrong in many places.

The libc6 problem was solved for really all Hams by the production
of a rpm file with the latest ax25-util. There is a fix on the way for the
new kernel and then things may fall in place.

But what about the guys who call in today and, after reading the
HOWTO still have a problem? It looks like 9 out of 10 times it's just a
simple correction to the HOWTO. So a supplement to the HOWTO or a new
HOWTO is needed. I suspect Terry the author is waiting until the kernel
fix is available to release a new version of the HOWTO.

        Any ideas?

Best wishes
