This is somewhat dated.  There was a lot of hugh and cry when QST first
started publishing a lot of software-based (msotly PIC) projects about
the lack of source.  While there are still a fair number of uenlightened
people not making their source available, many of the projects now
described give a web address for the software.  It's nowhere near ideal
but the pendulum seems to have begun to swing back in the direction of
making the source available.
