Has anyone heard of any work on a protocol implementation for
packet radio networks using a token for access control instead of
CSMA? It seems to me a well developed token passing protocol
with a well connected system at a good site controlling the token
(an access controller / router / repeater) would eliminate the
hidden transmitter problems we all seem to see. Sort of a
token star approach (or broken ring if you prefer ;-) ).
I looked at TAPR and saw a couple of site links for changing the
packet radio protocol, but they don't seem to do much for the
hidden transmitter problem. Obviously it can be handled reasonably
well or all those digital cell phones would be pretty useless ;-).
OK, I'll go take my medication now.......
