ax25 module patch needed for kernel 2.0.36

Hello ,
Can you tell me if I need to install the patch "ax25-module-14h.tar.gz"
on an i386 redhat 5.1 system which is upgraded to kernel 2.0.36, before
i make a new kernel with ax25 kiss netrom  rose support ? I want to hook
up my linux box via a THC to a radio to do packett. I don't have a
license to transmit yet, (studying for it) but i would like to recieve
till i get licensed to transmit. Is that possible ?
