I think you are having a common problem Haltec. Sendmail is on my
Red Hat version 5.2 working fine for my Internet e-mail. But if I write
e-mail with pine for ax.25 it fails. It trys to get it sent via the
Internet and that is what fails. 

        I have found that using the command line mail does work fine with
my ax.25 mail and uses the translation in /etc/hosts/ as desired. So try
that and see if it solves your problem. It does not use sendmail and that
is good! I saw the complete data book for sendmail and it's over 1,000
pages long...:-)
