Presumably that's an internal ZIP drive, but is it the IDE or SCSI
version?

If it's an IDE one, RH 5.2 will recognise it out of the box. If it's
the SCSI one, you may have to do a kernel recompile with the relevant
options enabled, or you may be lucky and the installation kernel
recognises it.

As a hard drive with removable platters - and the driver locks the
drive's eject mechanism when it's mounted.

Yes.

No difficulties that weren't directly due to operator error - things
such as mistyping `mount` as `munt` resulted in things not working as
expected, but were also easily corrected at the second attempt...
