Hi all,
While I was translating AX25-HOWTO into Polish I have noticed
how lengthy the document was and how difficult it must be both for
the author and for the translators to maintain and keep it updated.
My suggestion would be to split the original ax25-howto into at
least two other howtos: ham-protocols-howto and ham-drivers-
howto. Perhaps there exist even more damark lines along which
one could devide all of the material contained in the current
(outdated) ax25-howto but that's what comes to my mind at the
moment.
I don't suggest that every packet radio protocol should have its own
howto because it would be pointless - they usually go through one
and the same hardware interface, be that a baycom modem or a
tnc or a soundcard. And you configure them almost at the same
time. So having them in one howto is a good thing.
But a separate ham-drivers-howto would be a good starting point for
those who want to get their linux box speak to their meticulously
soldered:-) hardware.
Unfortunately I cannot volunteer to help with the creation of any of
the howtos - lack of the necessary expertise.
If we are looking for a substitution of a HAM-HOWTO, however,
then I see this site as a good candidate to pave the way:
http://www.casema.net/~aba/.

"73" and have a nice day.
