ax25 and 2.2.6 kernel

Hello everyone,
what are the appropriate versions for for the net-tools and ax25-utils
packages for the latest (2.2.6) kernel version?

I am new to linux and going through the ax25-HOWTO, I get the impression
that net-tools is a patch.  If that's the case I am wondering if it is
still necessary considering the 2.2.6 kernel has support for ax25 imbedded
in the kernel assuming you configure it that way.
