        Actually I think a UDP/IP speaking microcontroller
        on 10BaseT is possible solution. KISS/UDP/IP isn't
that difficult a protocol to cook up :)

Some interesting cadgets for that type of use I know
        that http://www.iti.fi/iti.html does. (UDP/IP over
        ethernet by Motorola 68HC11 ...)

Cygnus does have some free operating system kernel
available too.. (It is called VSTa, I believe,
but it in itself does not contain IP in any form.)

One problem at Ethernets is need for EUI-48 number
space to get GLOBALLY UNIQUE identities for the gadgets.
Those are sold in 23 bit chunks (I think), at USD 5000
per chunk. (Possibly the chunk is smaller, though..)

I do think (but don't know for sure, didn't spend time
enough at reading the spec), that USB does device auto-
numbering, and doesn't per se need static globally unique
device identities/serial numbers.. It does have device
class information, e.g. info telling that this is a
mouse, or a communication device, or a ...

Is 10 GHz RF ok for you ? Or do you need 24 GHz ?
