I think you don't understand the real problem: how to connect a high
speed
device to the computer. If you put a "linux-box" the problem still
exists
in the linux box :-)
There is 2 kinds of solutions:
* A board
- PCI
- Ethernet. TAPR guys where doing (?) radio-modems with this
interface.
- Special, like SCC, PI2, etc...
* Using Ports:
- Serial = too slow
- EPP = Good, look at baycom
- USB = Why not ?
- Other
All this solutions are good, the more we have, the better !
And very important: think in the money. Using existing ports can save
very much. Today 90%(?) of computers have USB and EPP, that is surely
simpler than doing a PCI board !
