What exactly is the pressing need to upgrade to Kernel version 2.2.x?
I have a machine in a remote location sending data for work that is running
a 1.2.x kernel! I am not going to upgrade that thing until it requires it
(I.E. quits working with a message that your kernel is too old) So many
people I know are dashing at the 2.2Kernel I ask why and they have
absolutely no good reason. "was your system working before this?" ,"Yes",
"then why?","Ummmm.... it the 2.2Kernel!! I gotta have it!"
And cince red-hat broke the lib setup I dual boot into slackware to compile
the other 98% of the Linux software out there that error's out in red-hat
compiles, but compiles flawlessly in slackware (I'ts a glibc thing, and it
is stupid for it to ever happen!)
So if you "GOTTA" have the latest version number on your software, please
continue to download and re-compile then frustrate (Some people love doing
that, really!) Otherwise, once you get it working.... leave it alone until
you HAVE to upgrade because something quit working.
