Libax25 software and Red Hat 6.0

Mr. Craig Small, VK2XZ is a good C programmer and wrote these three
tar balls for the Ham Radio ax25-util users that are using Linux with the
new kernel and libraries:
ax25-apps-0.0.1.tar.gz ax25-tools-0.0.2.tar.gz libax25-0.0.4.tar.gz
I UN-tarred and after reading INSTALL compiled these software on my stock Red
Hat 6 computer.

There were several pointer warnings during the compile but all three
packages compiled fine. I used the recommended make install that puts the
binaries where they should go. The new binaries just wrote over the older
binaries I made with kernel 2.0.36 last year.

Everything seemed to come up fine but after 30 minutes I looked at
the file /proc/net/nr_nodes and it had just one entry. It is clear that
netromd is not working. The older netromd replaced the new one and now
everything I use is working.

I am using kissattach and netromd and ax25d and mheardd and call
using netrom and ax25, the FBB bbs and listen. There is are no rose nodes in
New Mexico and so I can't test that.

In summary it is easy to compile these source codes on Red Hat 6 and
the only problem appears to be netromd. It is my recollection that the
author of the netrom for ax25-utils is sending patch(s) to Craig that will
fix netromd.

It is suggested that a paper be written that tells a new Linux Ham
how to use this software with his new operating system...in plain English
(then it will translate easily to German and Swedish and Danish and...).

Best wishes
