#1 problem is not having talk daemon running.
On the console, type "talk root" if that works then ttylinkd has a real
problem, if it doesn't work, do whatever you have to do to get it to
work.
The manual page sortof hints about this, but I think the amount of
information you'd need to know it was a hint you'd know the whole
story anyway; hmm something to change.
