I am quite sure Tomi will reply as well, however, what you say is true,
BUT, the text says when you enter the alias command,
Type <RETURN> to abort
and returns the hostname defined in this instance it is localhost.
Connected to localhost:link (Escape: CTRL-T)

If i (the localhost) do not respond there is no prompt returned to the user
who issued the command, however if one types in the Escape char, then one
gets the prompt back.

I would say that this is quite normal, considering the text tells you what
to do.
