I think that part of this question as to what version will run on different
machines is being caused by those packaging the different systems. I have
yet to install Linux and have just been reading the mail here. I have for
Christmas "The Complete Linux Operating System 6.5". Linux-Mandrake 6.1
(Red Hat Linux with enhancements), it also has a sticker on the box: Linux
Kernel 2.2.13 KDE 1.1.2 XFree 3.3.5

Under the system requirements is says, "CPU Intel Pentium and compatible
processors (Pentium I/MMX/Pro/II/Celeron/III/AMDK6/K6-2/Cyrix 6X86/M-II)
Ram: 16mb required, 64 recommended for X Window system. Disk space: 500mb
minimum, 1GB+ recommended, 3.5 floppy drive.

I suspect from reading the mail on this reflector that it will work on
386/486 machines and may also run on smaller harddrives. But then, the box
doesn't say that and that just confuses the dickens out of newbees.

I'm still trying to figure out if I can get it to run on my hardware. If it
will run some of my Ham programs somehow. i.e. CT v9, Logger or Hyperlog,
TRlog. I would guess that in my case, I have the operating system, I am
simply trying to find a purpose for it and to know that with a bit of effort
in the beginning, that it will run my software.
