Hi Stephan -  This sounds like exactly the problem I had with netrom
in SuSE 6.3.   I finally solved it by recompiling the kernel.   Its hard to
believe things would almost work without the right kernel support but
apparently so.    When things are working correctly you should see
readable callsigns in the ARP display instead of the HEX.
