Linux workshop The Linux workshop will be guided by Hans-Peter Zorn (DG4IAD), Robert Stein- Haeusser (DL1NC), Matthias Welwarsky (DG2FEF) and Jens David (DG1KJD) this year. It will take place during saturday and consist of two parts. The first part starts at around 11:30 and consists mainly of an installation party. It is our aim to provide every participant with an useable, working Linux packet radio system and basic understandings about how it works. To achieve this, you have to bring your PCs with everything you need in order to operate it (i.e. display, keyboard, cables, mouse, packet radio equipment). There has to be enough free disk space on your HDDs (at least 500 MB) and if possible one free partition entry in your partition table. Please remember to back up all important data on the system before daring the trip to Darmstadt because until now we managed to kill nearly every system. :-) The workshop includes: - Installation of a common Linux distribution - Basic configuration of the system - Configuration and recompilation of the Linux operating system core (kernel) with support for the new AX.25 stack - Configuration of the AX.25 and network subsystems - Installation and configuration of the graphical packet radio terminal "LinKt" - Installation and configuration of TCP/IP and applications using it (e.g. Netscape etc.) At around 15:00, when everybody should have a useable system, we can start destroying it again by applying our programming skills. :-) Hans-Peter will show us, how to design C programs which communicate with the outer world using the common socket interface provided by the AX.25 core. Of cause, if the number of participants permits it, we could also do something completely different. 2.) 9600 baud workshop Here no real program exists. You can bring your transceivers including power supply and AF cables. Andreas, DL2FZN will answer your questions, test the radio for usuability with 9k6 and give you advise in how to achieve it. This workshop also starts on saturday at around 13:15. 3.) Pager workshop Holger, DB6KH guides a pager workshop this year. It is about converting standard commercial pagers (Quix, Telmi, ...) into ham radio equipment (i.e. to receive, in the 439 MHz band). It starts on saturday, 13:15. Bring your pager and your electronic skills... -- Jens
