My main computer is similar: DX2-66, upgraded to 32M RAM and over 4 Gig of
hard disk space. It runs RedHat 6.0 right now, and serves the home
network which also includes a Pentium 60, a 386-40, and an Athlon-650.
The DX2-66 runs AX.25 over soundmodem and the internet connection over
a 56K modem. It handles mail, printers, and web cacheing for the home
network, and also is used locally from console or XWindows running KDE.

Even without upgrading RAM and disk, you should be able to use your
computer for AX.25 with soundmodem.
