Ron,
Having run (and still running!) Linux on a range of 486's with 8MB ram up,
I would say that there should be no problem. However, and as Jim points
out, you need to use a "386 friendly" distribution, i.e. Mandrake is a no-no.
Currently I use RedHat 5.2 on most of the 486's I admin, although this is
coming from a Slackware 3.0 system
