Mike,

Go to www.redhat.com and download the ax25 tools,ax25 utils, and node RPMs.
They work fine with the 2.2.14 kernel, and no compiling.

That will get you on the air.

tip: Use minicom to talk to your TNC when it is in terminal mode, or even as
a simple packet terminal, and
       kissparms (part of the ax25 tools) is used to take it out of kiss
mode if you need.

Then you can start getting ham radio software for what ever!
