Providing the TNC is in working order and minicom is confgured properly,
then minicom should see the TNC without any commands.

Quite possably you need to send a certain character to the TNC, for example
a PK232 needs a few * asterisks, it should then return its checksum to
minicom.

After that you can use the TNC commands, or set the TNC into kiss mode with
what ever init string(s) it needs.
