What I need to know is what ax25 - tools, utils, apps etc do I need to get
LINKT running and also can LINKT use the FBB unproto broadcast protocol to
gather messages from the BBS?

LinKT uses Kernel AX25 facilities. You'll have to re-compile the kernel,
adding AX25, perhaps NET/ROM and Rose (which I think is used in VK).
See the AX25-HOWTO. The version details in it are outdated, but the
procedure is pretty much the same. You'll need the spy deamon
(AX25SPYD) and a converse deamon which are in the AX25 tools (utils,
apps...one of the two...forget which) if you want to use the spy and convers
clients that come with LinKT.
The LinKT I test-drove some time ago didn't use unproto FBB headers, but I
understand it's being implemented.
The LinKT message browser wants to log on to your FBB BBS, then sends
the 'l' command to get a list of new bulls. LinKT grabs the message headers
as they are being sent to you (in connected mode) by the FBB BBS and
puts them in a pick-list. You can then point & shoot at a msge, which will
then be downloaded on demand.
The FBB message header detection script didn't work for me and I ended up
hacking it to make it work with the local FBB 7.00G BBS. The docs are a bit
brief on the config stuff and I had a good old jolly time getting this to work.
Let me know if you want me to send you the FBB config file. The hard part is
to get the ax25 stuff installed...LinKT was relatively painless if I remember
rightly. It might be worth it to wait for the next LinKT release...although the
GUI is very nice, I find the message browser/reader somewhat awkward.
By the way, there is an AX25 configurator (ax25-config) that is very useful for
setting up the AX25 services.
