newbie questions

Hi all.
I just joined this list and i have a lot of question:
I want to connect to the internet using radio ( i heard it is possible,
when i was searching on the web, i got redirected to this mailing list.
so here are my question
1. is it possible to connect to the net using radio waves?
2. What hardware do i need for it?
3. Do i need somekind of transmitter (gateway) near me?
4. is it legal to use it?
5. Is someone from Israel here that uses it?
