Please help,
Pretty much a newbie here. Looking for a device driver for an
InfoPeripherals Scanner, Model FB613. This is a TWAIN compliant scanner
(if that means anything at all). Have contacted manufacturer who and
can't get even get an auto reply :-( Have ditched Windoze on server,
and would *really* like to do same on workstation, but MUST keep scanner
on line. If anyone can direct me to an appropriate device driver, or a
collection of likely drivers, I'd most appreciate it.
If at all possible, please reply via email, as time to search for
replies in newsgroup is very limited. Thank you.

Subject: Watching parallel port for a pin to go to ground?
Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 21:29:26 -0400
Is there any way to have my Linux box watch the parallel port and wait for a
pin to get shorted to ground (or another pin if that works better) and then
take an action? I'm hoping to find a way to do this with a simple BASH if
statement, so I can execute a command based on it. I'm not C/C++ literate,
so I wouldn't be able to write a program using one of those to do it. It can
be any pin on the port, but it has to be the parallel port (I need all of my
serial ports). Basically, I want to be able to have a button, that when
pressed, will send an email (I know how to write the rest of the BASH
script, just not how to monitor the parallel port for that condition). I
guess there are 2 ways of doing this, either directly watching the status of
the port, or checking the error level of an external program that does this
already for some purpose.
Thanks!
Matt

Hi I just bought the HP 695 and I can't get it to work in linux.
It just doesn't do anything... i only tried for a little while and
i'm going to tinker with it still. I believe i have to disable my pnp
support in my bios (that is what the HOWTO says). Any help will be much
appreciated. I was told by some HP guys that the 695's guts is identical
to the
694 and any other 69* printer. And I know that those others work and
I was told that this printer also will work.
I have RH 5.2 with kernel 2.2.6.? (is it possible that I messed
something
up when i recompiled my kernel... i put in printer support i believe)
Thanks in advance

is it a SCSI/USB/parallel port scanner? if it's SCSI look into SANE,
otherwise you might be out of luck. Might consider exchanging it for
a SCSI scanner then. Recently got a HP IIc and it works fine with
xvscan (commercial version of xv including scanner support mainly
for HP scanners).

This problem arises if you do not define active partition while defining the
DOS Partition. You can rerun Fdisk and use the command "Set active
partition" and set it to driv econtaining your main partition or where your
windows is loaded. Hope this solves your problem.

Are you using the Astor chassis with the N440BX motherboard? If you are
the problem is with the hot swap backplane. You need to download the
latest firmware for the hot swap backplane. Go to
http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/server/n440bx/bmc57.htm
Download BMC57, update the hot swap backplane. You also should update
the sensor data and motherboard firmware. Then download BIOS 11 and
upgrade the BIOS. Once the hot swap backplane is updated Linux will
recognize the backplane and it will boot fine.

RedHat 6.0 comes with version 0.97 of the MegaRAID driver. The driver on
AMI's web site is 1.01, and according to the README the MegaRAID 762
isn't supported. However I have installed this driver and it does appear
to work fine with the MegaRAID 762.

As far as I know this adapter is unsupported according to
http://cesdis.gsfc.nasa.gov/linux/drivers/index.html#notsupported
"No board with an on-board processor is supported, because these
invariably have a proprietary/undocumented interface. (EEPro Server and
Matrox multiport PCI switch cards fall into this category.) " ^^^^^^^^
Try to load the eepro100.o module, it might work because the NIC is
based on the 82559 chip which the eepro100.o supports. However the chip
or firmware is probably modified so even if it does load it may not work
properly.

Since there are so many winmodems on the market I always buy external
modems. That way I dont have to worry about winmodems. But I am sorry to
hear of your experience.
I dont care for winmodems either of course, But the market is rife with
them. I got stuck once with a lucent 56k winmodem and had the hardest
time getting rid of it. Finally sold it to a windoze user.
I guess they are a plague...

Subject: Onboard sound with VIA's MVP4
Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 21:23:59 GMT
Hi,
I have been trying to get the onboard sound card to work on a M/B with
VIA's MVP4 chipset and was hoping for advice. It is supposed to be
SB Pro compatible, and also use the AC97 codec interface. (Not sure
about this, the M/B documentation is pitiful).
As expected, the 100% SB compatible module (sb.o) doesn't work.
/dev/sndstat lists the audio device as Sound Blaster Pro (8 BIT ONLY)
(3.02), but gives nothing under `Installed drivers:' as the howto
suggests it should. When I cat english.au > /dev/audio, there is a
pause of approx. 3s before I get the command prompt back, but no error
messages (or sound) result.
The SB compatible module (sound.o) appears to load, but no devices or
drivers appear under /dev/sndstat
Bios has the following options:
Onboard sound: Enabled
Onboard legacy audio: Enabled
Soundblaster: Enabled
SB IO = 220H
SB IRQ = 5
... more SB leagacy options ...
Do these BIOS settings sound OK?
Using 2.2.10 kernel.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark.

I am experiencing errors when trying to access some files on large
(>4GB) DVDs. On an older version of Linux, it blows up the kernel.
On a recently downloaded and installed Redhat-6.0, I get errors
indicating unexpected buffer sizes (x802 or x808 instead of x800),
then filenames -- and the subsequent command line prompt -- become
garbled. Under Win95, the disc is readable all the way through. I
am suspicious of a addressing error or some such, but wonder if
anyone has already seen this, and perhaps fixed it....
