I just installed the 2.4.0 kernel on my personal machine, a dual P-
III/450 Tyan Tiger with the Linksys 10/100 card in it. My distro was
SuSE 6.3 and was working great on a 2.2.13 SMP kernel with the tulip
driver built into the kernel, not as module. The compile and install of
2.4.0 kernel went without a hitch and at bootup the machine was neary
twice as quickly responsive as it was with the old kernel.... something
I've noticed on three other machines I installed 2.4.0 on at my
office :-). BUT, my machine fell off the network! The tulip driver in
the new 2.4 kernel loads and sees the card, however the link LED on the
back of the card flickers erratically and it cannot sync a connection
to the fast ethernet switch port that it is plugged into (an Allied
Telesyn switch) but when I plug it into an old 10BaseT hub, it links up
just fine. I'm in the middle of upgrading my distro to SuSE 7.0 right
now, so as soon as that's complete I'll try the promisc parm and if
that don't work, I'll try hunting for other drivers and/or patches.
Definitely something has gotten broken in the 2.4 tulip driver.

It is a T3000 with an ISA 1mbs/500mbs controller.
My system is IBM Cyrix 6x86 166+, 32mb, and 14gb drive.
When I try to compile the ftape, it asks for base mem i/o, dma, and irq.
How do I find these settings for my drive?

Have it working fine in RedHat7.0, also worked fine in 6.2. But
this is the 16MB version, the 32MB version was not very well supported
when I bought it some months ago.

1) Pull out the ISA controller card and look at the jumper setting.
2) Try finding it by using the following commands:
$ cat /proc/ioports
$ cat /proc/dma
$ cat /proc/interrupts

Gleichzeitig f�ngt die Festplatte gelegentlich an zu
"parken" oder "schlagen" - wie auch immer das zu bezeichnen
sei.
Unter W95 kommt es bei Aufruf einer DF�-Verbindung (Modem)
zu W95-Stillstand. Also scheint es etwas mit der Hardware/
BIOS zu tun zu haben. Unter W95/ Systemsteuerung
korrekt wie bisher erkannt:
Port1 03f8-03ff IRQ4
Port2 02f8-02ff IRQ3
.. im BIOS /peripheral devices steht bis dahin das gleiche.
Darauf habe ich im BIOS

Das Schlagen der Festlatte unter Linux hat mit anderen

ist es noch alle Minute zu h�ren:

Jetzt ist das Ding auf 16 Heads , Master . (Ich habe nur diese FP am
IDE0). Jemand einen Tipp warum die Festplatte
unter W95 "schl�gt" wenn die
seriellen Ports 1 und 2 unter Linux nicht mehr erreichbar sind?
Warum kann mit der "Auto"-Konfiguration im BIOS W95 wieder mit den
urspr�nglich fest eingetragenen Ports 1 (03f8) und 2 (02f8)
arbeiten?

Ach ja: Suse 6.4, Kernel 2.2.14., Mainboard MSI mit Ali V-Chipsatz,
Sockel 7, 300MHz AMD, FSB 100MHz, 128MB RAM, Amibios
ganz und alleine die Grafikkarte PCI ATI Mach64VT 2MB und
die ISA-Creatix PnP Karte sind im Rechner.
Das Schnittstellenproblem auch ohne Creatix-Karte vorhanden,
d.h. ohne irgeneine Karte im Rechner, auch keine Soundkarte
oder so onboard.
�brigens: lt. /var/log/messages sind die Ports 1 und 2

hello folks,
as far as I understood the adaptec 29160 works fine with linux.
But I run into trouble as I tried to install SuSE Linux 7.0 on
a new System (Board ASUS CUSL + ADaptec 29160).
The System only recognizes the contoller, when parity checking in the
SCSI-setup is diabled ?!?. But when I then tried to write down the
partition tables the system dies with timeout when trying to reset the
bus.
The same thing happens earlier when parity checking is enabled in the
SCSI bios :-(
some ideas ?

Hello,
This newbie has just installed mandrake 7.2 and everything went smoothly
except for my SB Live Value PCI sound card. Whenever I try and configure it
I get a device or resource busy error message and there is a message
suggesting my irq setting is invalid for the card on boot up. I have moved
the card around all available PCI slots to no avail and don't know what
else to do. I followed the installation instructions and printed a resource
report from within windows and on the irq usage summary there are two
entries for irq 10 (the one SB live is trying to use) they are:
10 Creative SB Live! Value
10 ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering
I don't know much about this stuff so I'm not sure if the ACPI entry is
causing the problem or not?
I know that the card isn't broken because it works under windows ok. I am
quite sure that this IRQ business is the problem but I just don't know how
to get around it.
Any advice appreciated.

This is strange. I have a 6.x (mostly 6.2 packages but not all) and
have no time trouble. This is in AlphaStation 200 (Avanti) machines.
Is this a "known" bug, that is, is it to be found in the bug reports?
Otherwise I wouldn't just say it's a bug.
What package in your install is the one "to blame"?
