Reply-To: Where you found it

I have a Compaq Presario 12XL310 that I'd like to put redhat linux 7.1
on. Well, actuall it's already on. One problem. Video in Xwindows.
I only get the right 1/3 of the screen to display, the rest is black.

I have messed with the XF86Config file to many times to list with
suggestions off the web with no avail. I tried redhat tech support.
He didn't have a clue. And, no Xconfigurator settings seem to do any
good. Either the 1/3 screen or an error.

To my knowledge the video card is a Trident Cyberblade AGP i1

Any help is very greatly appreciated.

Just a note, the newer hard drives are a BUNCH quiter than the old ones...

The heat is less on the newer small die chips. I'm using a P3 800 and the
whole box runs about 20 deg cooler than my P2 350 did and is MUCH faster.
Asus makes a nice mother board and any of the later32 meg nvidia boards
should do what you need. Antech makes a nice case that has a pull out board.

Good luck and have fun building it!

tar is okay for groups of files, but NOT good for the entire system.

learn to use dump, and/or BRU or Arkeia.

This is true of ALL operating systems, including losedos.

We all know about registry sequence numbers, and the problems
they cause when you try to restory registry.dat.

OHCI caused some trouble. What kernel are you running? You need at least
2.2.18. There was a bug in some module preventing the synchronization between
the visor and Linux. I got a patch from the author which cured the problem. I
don't know whether this patch already made its way into 2.2.18 or 2.2.19. If
you will continue having problems I can send you that patch.

If you want to synchronize you first have to press the button at the visor.
After that you can start a program like pilot-xfer.

The keyboard doesn't know which symbols are printed on the keycaps, so
the OS can't switch the layout automatically.

What kernel are you using, my gues is a 2.2 just take a 2.4 kernel compile it with
promise pdc 20265/20267 support and youre drive is up.

Three words: Forget the Raid.
The BIOS side Realtime-Mode-Software-Raid-functions are exorbitant trash,
in Linux not usable until HiPoint releases it's own working Linux driver.
Until then it's only a DMA100 IDE Controller.
